Zombies vs Unicorns Holly Black Justine Larbalestier Books
I have never reviewed an anthology, so I really don't know where to begin. I guess I will start off by saying that I usually do not like short stories, or reading a book of short stories all at one time. I usually grow bored with them. I like to have lots of character development and plot building and you just can't do that in short stories, but I am happy to say that I did not grown bored with this book.Every single author in the book is fantastic and their stories were fantastic as well. I was planning on naming my favorite zombie story and my favorite unicorns story, but as I look back through them, I just can't pick! I'll try to touch on a few of my favorites.
I think my favorite was definitely Cold Hands by Cassandra Clare. This story was amazing! I want it to be the start of a new series! Forget about the Mortal Instruments, this was more awesome than those. (Yes I did just say that!) The world she creates in this story has endless possibilities and I wish we could explore them all. The characters were fantastic and Cassandra really made you feel their love for each other even though it was short. If you read one story in this anthology make it this one!
Inoculata by Scott Weterfeld was also fantastic. It's another one that I wish was the beginning of a new series or book. I loved the idea of his 'cure' and the ending left you wanting more.
I have never read anything by Meg Cabot so I didn't know what to expect when it came time to read Princess Prettypants. The name alone is terrifying, but the story was great! How can you go wrong with a unicorn that farts rainbows?
I also love The Children of the Revolution by Maureen Johnson. It was funny and eerie at the same time. It was a lot of fun.
I, of course, loved The Care and Feeding of Your Baby Killer Unicorn by Diana Peterfreund. I'm a huge fan of the Killer Unicorn series, so I was excited to read this one, and I was happy to see that it was about the back story of the new character that shows up in Ascendant. I can't wait to learn more about her!
Those are only my favorites. All the stories were good. Another thing that made the book awesome were the introductions (a.k.a. arguments) between Holly and Justine! They made me laugh many times. And have you saw this book in person? Its amazing! The artwork and design are so detailed!
I highly suggest that you read this book! Especially if you are a fan of any of these authors. But what you really want to know is which team, right? Going into this book I was team unicorn, but now I'm not so sure. Do I have to pick?

Zombies vs Unicorns Holly Black Justine Larbalestier Books Reviews
I love, love this book (anthology, debate?). It's so funny and the stories are really good, though ridiculous by all the best authors. Anything that has Cassandra clare, Holly black, Scott Westerfeld, and Carrie Ryan all together is def worth a purchase! I wasn't too familiar with some of the other authors, but every story was excellent. And Alaya Dawn Johnson's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'- OMG, it was soooo good.
If you're a fan of any of these authors or just love the ya genre, pick up this book- you won't be disappointed, but glad you did!
I LOVE this anthology. I have purchased copies and sent them to friends!
I thought I was Team Zombie, but now I'm just Team Everyone Who Contribute To This Book.
Here you will find stories that make you think, make you laugh, make you gasp, make you cry, and draw you in completely. I can think of two stories in the entire collection that were not compelling. The rest were amazingly well written. I am now a huge fan of most of these authors, directly as a result of their contributing stories in this.
I think I could have done without the podcast-esque commentary introductions by the team captains, especially after the first few snarky ones, but that's really the only negative point about this. I'm not generally a fan of short stories, but I actually re-read a handful of the ones in here. Highly recommend this for everyone who enjoys the supernatural/what-if genre, both the fantasy side and the dystopian side!
Let me start by saying.. up until now I would have considered myself Team Unicorn, without question. Being a big fan of vicious and deadly unicorns of the the RAMPANT series and completely grossed out by flesh eating zombie movies.. with the exception of zombie-like vamps of Scott Westerfeld's PEEPS and THE LAST DAYS . That being said, by page 178, I was finding myself heavily swaying to Team Zombie.. not too impressed with what TU was putting out and enjoying the tales from Zombie land for the most part.
Then I got to THE CARE AND FEEDING OF YOUR BABY KILLER UNICORN and I was right back on TU.. boy does Diana Peterfreund have a way with killer unicorns or what. Being a fan of her novels, I loved how her short was like a companion story to the Rampant series. And then Princess Prettypants was and entertaining read as well.
Not usually a fan of anthology reads, I decided to give ZOMBIES VS. UNICORNS a chance due to most writers involved have been favorites of mine in the YA/SFF genre. For the most part I wasn't disappointed. The good stories out number the few not so great ones and Holly and Justine's banter between each story kept things fun and light. I do have to say Justine's pro-TZ arguments were stronger but (for me) the top 2 stories were head and shoulders above the rest and they came from... Team Unicorn!
