We have looked high and low for this book to replace the one my daughter tore up as a baby. Finally found it here but it's different than the one we had as it's written in "British English" using words like "mummy" instead of "mommy", and certain phrasings being awkward and different. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I was a little annoyed that this wasn't mentioned anywhere in the title or description.Tags : Have You Got My Purr? "It's inside you." The simplest message of all for a happy life. Very young children will love this, especially if the one who reads can access their own indwelling "purr" as they read. Gorgeous artwork. Perfect for beginning readers, too!
The bright, large and, I might add, accurate, illustrations in this book are great, eye catching and very, very well executed! The story line is simple, a kitten who is searching for her purr. Her encounter with the barnyard animals keeps the story moving. The text is well matched with the illustrations. This is a cute warm story and is an excellent one to read with your young child. Recommend this one highly.
I love this book for two reasons
It is a good illustration for children about happiness and how the cat was looking for happiness in all the wrong places.
It is an excellent introduction to farm animals and their sounds. Most children can probably relate to the purring of a cat, but might not have yet had exposure to farm animals. This book does a good job of bridging the sound of purring of an every day cat to that of farm animals.
The illustrations in this book are beautiful and quite effectively support the prose.
I discovered this book at our local library and fell in love with the charming story. I instantly ordered it from , but the one I received has been re-written to be quicker and thus not as charming and sweet! This version has the kitty running from animal to animal in a panic looking for her purr, whereas the one at the library described how she went on her search through the day, and at days end she was getting quite tired by the time she talked to owl and the ending read much sweeter than this one. I don't know what year that edition was (it was hardbound - maybe that's the difference) or if it had a different publisher, but I was disappointed with this version and will continue my search for the one I fell in love with.
P.S. After posting this, I did find out that the book I bought from was published by Tiger Press and the book at the library is published by Dutton Children's Books. I do see that lists the publisher as Dutton - so no guarantee there.
An adorable calico kitten thinks she has lost her purr.
She spends the entire day asking various barnyard animals if they have her purr. Each responds with the sound it makes -- a woof, a squeak, a hoot, etc.
Finally, at the end of an exhausting day, Kitten returns to her mother who explains that nobody can take her purr.
"It's inside you. You hear it when you're happy."
Kitten cuddles with her mom....and with the loving reunion -- there it is!
Like Dorothy's heart's desire turning out to be in her own Kansas backyard all along, Kitten's purr was never lost to begin with.
The original version of " Have You Got My Purr? is wonderful. Do not get the new condensed version as it's a chopped up mess.
Great condtion
