I'm surprised this book doesn't have more reviews than it does. It is one of the better books in the series which is not to damn it with faint praise. All the books in the series have been very good to excellent with commendable consistency shown among the various authors. The author of the present book impresses me as somewhat more of a literary craftsman than the others. The book follows the same pattern as the other books in the series. Dan and Amy travel to a new place on the globe in search of a clue. This time they return to the western hemisphere for the first time since the first book, specifically, the Bahamas and then Jamaica. They learn about the life of a Cahill ancestor(s) who left a number of clues to *the* clue. This time the ancestors are the 18th century female pirate, Anne Bonny and the Jamaican heroine the Nanny of the Maroons. These form the educational content of the book and author Park skillfully and unobtrusively lectures the reader while advancing the plot. While doing all of this Dan and Amy have to fend off attempts from rival Cahills to forestall or co-opt their efforts. Isabel Kabra does the honors this time out. Isabel is delightfully evil without a hint of a redeemable qualities. Her children Ian and Natalie however are being worn down and begin to question their role in the clue hunt.
There are some major differences this time around as subplots come to their points. Dan and Amy discover the reason for Nellie's suspiciously high competence and secrecy and meet the mysterious man in black who has followed them around the globe. There is also a tragic death. Park handles the latter with great skill and the reader is affected as much as are Dan and Amy.
In short, a great set up for what promises to be a wild finale. Can it live up to a 9 book buildup? I'm anxious to find out. Highly recommended.

Storm Warning The 39 Clues Book 9 Linda Sue Park 9780545060493 Books Reviews
This is one of my favorite books, it has this great style and got me really excited to read the next book. I want to find out about the characters, witch is usually a great sigh. This maybe my favorite book in the series. At the end you find out who the man in black ( Now gray) is. And about there branch. It's fun to read. I think it's mind blowing ( sorry if that sounds stupid) its that good. All and All it's a great book to read so give a chance.
This time Dan and Amy are in the Bahamas and they discover the truth about the Madrigals. They also learn the need for unification of all the branches. They are off to the next country in book 10
I wanted to complete my collection of 39 clues. I have not yet read beyond book 8. I read the first book to my elementary class and they were intrigued. I sure that this one will be just as good as the others!
It was given as a gift.
The entire seris of books is an excellent read. I am now on book 11 and have enjoyed everything about them Even though it is a kids series it is entertaining for adults like myself.
Like the two previous reviewers I think Linda Sue Park has done a great job in fleshing out the characters in the book and getting the reader ready for the final book. The depth and breadth of the charaters in this book make it the best of the bunch so far. The maturing of Dan and Amy is very evident in this book and it makes it a pleasure to read.
Fair value for the money.
